Kodiaks Lose to Chiefs in Major Series Lacrosse Action

In Sports

The Cobourg Kodiaks, coming off a dramatic overtime win against the Brampton Excelsiors, returned home to the Cobourg Community Centre on Sunday night vs Six Nations Chiefs. The Kodiaks were not able to continue their winning ways losing 14-9 to the Chiefs. Cobourg remains in fifth spot in MSL, just two points out of a playoff spot that is currently being held by the Oakville Rock.

The game started quickly with Six Nations scoring 4 times in the first eight minutes. The Kodiaks were able to stop the bleeding when Brandon Robinson ripped a shot past Chiefs goalie Doug Jamieson to get the home side on the board. Bennett Drake then used some great stick work to beat Jamieson short side to make the score 4-2.

Both teams settled down to work set offences in the middle frame. The Chiefs showed why they are the second place team in MSL and were able to move the ball very smoothly. Chiefs player Dhane Smith opened the scoring in the second with a shot from outside that fooled Cobourg goalie Kevin Orleman. Robinson and Drake repiled for Cobourg. Near the end of the second period, Tehoka Nanticoke took a pass from Cody Jamieson and tip-toed the crease to beat Orleman. The score at the end of two periods was 8-5.

The third period saw both open up their transition games which made for some very exciting lacrosse. The Kodiaks, who have been fast in transition this season, were able to push the pace but the Chiefs always seemed to answer right back. The game ended with a score of 14-9.
Cobourg’s next game is Wednesday in Brooklin and then return home for their final regular season game when they host the Peterborough Lakers.

Tickets will be available at the door.
