OTF Grants Supporting Organizations to Build Stronger Communities across the Province
Ontario’s Government for the People is supporting non-profit organizations in Cobourg to improve community spaces in the province and expand or adapt projects that are already making a difference in the community.
Today, Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, and Minister Responsible for Women’s Issues, visited Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre and Transition House Emergency Shelter with MPP David Piccini to support the announcement of investments in local non-profits.
MPP Piccini announced that the following local non-profit and charitable organizations will receive a total of $120,100 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation:
Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre to improve infrastructure and expand program space to serve vulnerable individuals throughout Northumberland County.
Transition House Emergency Shelter to improve infrastructure to make building and security upgrades to the heritage building.
“These organizations are delivering initiatives that are already contributing to a strong social and cultural community in Cobourg,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our Government for the People is helping them to expand these initiatives, which means they will benefit even more residents in the area.”
During Minister MacLeod’s visit, she spoke on initiatives the province is taking on violence against women prevention and provided an update on the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
“The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has a deep impact on our organization,” said Nancy Johnston, Cornerstone Executive Director. “This grant will allow us to improve our infrastructure to adequately house our many programs and services, and enable us to continue in our work helping women and their families overcome their challenges and live a life free from violence.”
“Transition House is thrilled to receive generous financial support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation”, said Marsha Jones, Transition House Interim Chair. “This funding will allow us to make upgrades to our facility which will improve the safety of our staff and clients.”
