Northumberland OPP – Weekly Media Release

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 187 incidents this past week, here are some examples:

December 10
· A male party contacted police to report a theft that occurred at a local area business in Campbellford, Ontario. On Saturday December 8, 2018 at approximately 9:30 pm. two individuals entered a property located on Tanner Industrial Park and stole bags of sawdust. This is an ongoing issue and police continue to investigate.*
· At approximately 7:45 am an officer stopped a black Dodge sedan after it was measured travelling 154km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on Highway 401 in Hamilton Township. As a result of the investigation, 20 year-old Chamandeep Singh MAAN from Brampton, Ontario was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Race a Motor Vehicle. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days. The vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. He is to appear in court on February 9, 2019 in Cobourg.
· A resident who resides on Wildrose Circle in the Municipality of Trent Hills reported that someone broke into her shed and took a large can full of gasoline. Investigation ongoing.*

December 11
· A male from Cramahe Township reported to police that he lost his wallet containing all his identification and banking cards while in the Campbellford area over the weekend. A short time later the male notified police that his wallet was returned to him in the mail with nothing reported missing.
· A Brighton resident reported that his credit card number was used several times totalling $800 in an area that the male was not present in. The credit card company was notified and the card was cancelled.*
· Officers attended an address in the Municipality of Trent Hills just before 8:30 pm for a report of a family dispute. A female was arguing with her grandson over a jar of salsa. Both individuals were spoken to and advice provided. All was calm upon police departing from the location.
· Police are investigating a theft of copper pipe and AC fan motors that was reported from a business located in the Municipality of Port Hope. The incident is believed to have occurred on December 9, 2018. Investigation continuing.*

December 12
· A female who is a volunteer at a local area business located on the south side of Brighton, reported to police that she had been assaulted on December 6, 2018 by a fellow volunteer after they engaged in a verbal argument over what to do with an in stock item. As a result of the investigation police arrested and charged a 70 year-old female from Brighton, Ontario with Assault. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in January 2019.
· Officers responded to a report of metal debris on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Cramahe Township which resulted in flat tires on several vehicles. The debris was removed from the highway and no injuries were reported.

December 13
· A Hamilton Township resident reported to police that he was attempting to send money to a friend through his PayPal account. There was an issue with the transaction and the money did not go through. The male searched on-line for a phone number for PayPal. When he called the number found he was told his account had been hacked and he needed to send Google Play cards to them in order to fix the problem. The male realized this was a scam and no amount of money had been lost.

Officers also investigated 16 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 15 motor vehicle collisions; 30 traffic related complaints and conducted 30 RIDE programs during this time period.
