Safe Communities Northumberland County established in 2015 vision is to make Northumberland County the safest and healthiest place to live, learn, work, and play. We are proud of the diverse partnership with over 50 organization working together to bridge the gaps within our community. We work to identify and reduce the risks in the following categories: Falls, On and Off-Road injuries, and Self-Harm (mental illness, relationship-based victimization and suicide prevention) Interpersonal Violence. We fill the gaps in the community that no one organization can do alone.
Our collective response has had a significant impact on reducing the risks to individuals across Northumberland County. Our focus is working with the community, service providers and key decision makers. Everyone is important and should have access to supports. Safe Communities Northumberland’s commitment is to provide these opportunities for everyone for FREE through a continued response to daily challenges that we all face.
Collectively we have offered training and education for mental health, caregiver supports, working and supporting youth, seniors and vulnerable populations, falls prevention, workplace wellness and on and off-road injuries. In 2016 we hosted the first Community Connection Expo focused on bridging the gaps between the community and service providers.
The partnerships that have come from our work has been invaluable for the community. Safe Communities Northumberland has contributed to the success of other programs such as MHEART, the Situation Table, and many other groups in our community. The result of these events has positively impacted relationships and has increased our capacity to deal with ongoing challenges and ultimately make life better for individuals in our community.
