(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 198 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
August 7
· An officer stopped a commercial motor vehicle eastbound on Highway 401 in Port Hope; Ontario after it was measured travelling 120 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. The white tractor trailer was being driven by a 45 year old male from West Grey Township, Ontario. As a result of the investigation the driver was charged with driving while under suspension, speeding and drive a commercial motor vehicle not equipped with a working speed-limiting system. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
· Between August 4, and August 6, 2018 multiple vehicles were reported to have been keyed while parked in a used car lot located on County Road 45 in Hamilton Township. Both the passenger and drivers side doors had key marks on them. The investigation is continuing.*
· A resident of Trent Hills, Ontario reported that his 2004 grey PT Cruiser and his black 2011 5×8 utility trailer that was parked at his business located on Industrial Drive in Campbellford had been stolen sometime between August 4 and August 6, 2018. The trailer was hooked up to the PT Cruiser. The following day August 8, 2018 the PT Cruiser was located near the 14th Line East north of Campbellford. The trailer with an Ontario licence plate L95 80Y is still outstanding.*
August 8
· A male from the Trent Hills area was a victim to the ITunes card scam. He received an email he thought was from an associate asking for gift cards. He bought $400 in ITunes cards, scanned the cards, and then emailed them as requested. Another email was received requesting more cards be sent. The male then realized it was a scam and reported it to police.
· A Trent Hills resident reported his orange 18 inch Husqvarna chainsaw was stolen from under a locked tonneau cover on his pickup truck that was parked in his driveway on 12th Line East north of Campbellford. The chainsaw has a serial number of 093500395.*
· Approximately ten mailboxes were reported to have been vandalized sometime overnight on VanLuven Road in Hamilton Township.*
· Officers attended an address several times for an ongoing neighbor dispute over a shared well on County Road 31 in Cramahe Township. A water line was allegedly cut preventing water access to one of the residents’ home. Police continue to investigate.*
August 9
· Police investigated a collision which occurred when a white Toyota sedan left the roadway and struck a tree on a residential property on Old Kingston Road west of Grafton, Ontario in Alnwick-Haldimand Township just before 7 p.m. The suspect vehicle left the scene and was stopped a short distance away on County Road 2 east of Grafton. Officers found the male driver to be under the influence of alcohol and entered into a roadside drinking and driving investigation. As a result of the investigation a 46 year old male from Port Hope, Ontario was issued a three day licence suspension as a result of the approved Roadside Screening Device test conducted at the scene. The male driver was additionally charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and careless driving.
· Just after 10 p.m. officers were called to the area of Cedar Street in Brighton, Ontario for reports of a suspicious male looking into windows in the neighbourhood. The suspect is described as being a tall white male with a medium build, approximately 25 – 35 years of age, wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants and red gloves without fingers, riding a black bicycle. Police patrolled the area extensively and were unable to locate the suspect.*
Northumberland OPP officers investigated 24 accidental 911/alarm calls, 27 motor vehicle collisions; 44 traffic related complaints and conducted 16 RIDE programs during this time period.
