Northumberland OPP Weekend News Brief

WEEKEND NEWS BRIEF

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 122 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

July 21

• A 22 year old male from Toronto Ontario was charged with stunt driving after an officer measured him on radar travelling 158 km/h in a posted 100 km/hr zone in a grey SUV on Highway 401 eastbound in Port Hope ON. He received an immediate 7 day licence suspension; his vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days. He has an impending court date on September 12, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg ON.
• Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Bewdley, Ontario located in Hamilton Township just after 9 p.m. As a result of the investigation a 61 year old female from Cobourg, ON was arrested and charged with assault. She was released and has a date in September to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice In Cobourg ON. A 55 year old male from Hamilton Township ON, was also arrested and charged with fail to comply with undertaking. He was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing.

July 22

• Just before 8:00 a.m. police responded to a parking lot located near the Campbellford hospital after a witness reported that two young males were attempting to get into parked motor vehicles. Officers located the males matching the description provided by the witness a short distance away. As a result of the investigation two male youths ages 16 yrs. and 17 yrs. both from Trent Hills, ON were arrested and charged with mischief and possession of property obtained by crime. The 16 year old male was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, ON in August 2018. The 17 year old male youth was found to be breaching a probation order and was held in custody pending a bail hearing. The identity of the involved youths is protected by the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act
• An 18 year old male from North York, Ontario was charged with stunt driving after an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Brighton, Ontario. A grey sedan, heading westbound, was measured on radar as trav elling 176 km per hour in a posted 100 km per hour zone. His driver’s license was suspended for 7 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018
• A Brighton Ontario resident reported to police that his 63 foot sailboat was damaged sometime overnight while docked at an unattended public access dock near Bayshore Road south of Brighton, ON. The sail line was cut and the sail flapped in the wind until it was damaged.*
• Sometime overnight a blue 1999 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from an address on 14^th Line East north of Campbellford in the Municipality of Trent Hills ON. The vehicle had been located in ditch in on County Road 42 in Asphodel-Norwood Township by a Peterborough OPP officer. *
• Officers responded to a single motor vehicle that hit a hydro pole which resulted with wires being down near Campbellford ON. A 29 year old female from Havelock, Ontario was charged with careless driving. No injuries were reported.
• A witnesses called police just before 730 p.m. to report an assault that just occurred at a local area restaurant in Campbellford ON. As a result of the investigation Northumberland OPP Officers arrested and charged 45 year old James Orser from Campbellford, Ontario with assault. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 29, 2018.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 7 accidental 9-1-1 calls, 9 motor vehicle collisions, 26 traffic related complaints and conducted 10 RIDE programs over the weekend.
