Port Hope – Man Charged With Impaired Driving Following Collision

A 32 year old New Amherstburg man has was arrested Sunday after Port Hope Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Peter Street east of Hope Street at 4:30pm. Police arrived on scene and found two vehicles with substantial damage to front and rear. Police believe the man was driving his black ford ranger and collided into the rear of a Mazda vehicle driven by a male with passengers in the front and rear. The collision occurred when the driver of the Mazda was stopped his vehicle and was waiting to execute a turn.  One person from the Mazda vehicle was transported to NHH by EMS treated and released.  An investigation was conducted into the state of the man’s sobriety.  The man was arrested and taken to the Port Hope Police Service in order for Police to continue the investigation.  Robert John Shannon is charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and care and control of a motor vehicle with excess blood alcohol. He appears in court at the end of July.

One person was taken into custody at the scene of a two vehicle collision on Peter Street in Port Hope on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at approximately 4:35 p.m.
Port Hope Police say two vehicles were heading east on Peter Street when one of the vehicles was stopped to turn left into a Metro grocery store.
A pickup truck slammed into the back of the car before it came to rest along the right lane.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody and police said at the scene they were conducting a criminal investigation.
Eastbound lanes of Peter Street were closed for approximately 45 minutes.
Though police had a cruiser with emergency lights activated blocking eastbound lanes at Hope Street South, vehicles still went around it into oncoming lanes before being directed into the parking lot.
A Metro employee graciously came out to offer cold water to emergency services on scene.
No word on charges.
