Work continues on a CN Rail derailment that happened on December 24, 2022 in Grafton.

A switch malfunctioned just east of Station Road on Saturday shortly after 11 a.m.

The eastbound freight train collided with a parked train with 30 rail cars coming off the tracks.

On December 26, 2022, Manager Public Affairs, Ontario & Atlantic Canada, Daniel Salvatore said, “CN remains optimistic that later this evening (Monday, December 26, 2022) the Kingston subdivisions north track will become passable as crews continue to work at the site in the Grafton area. We are also pleased to announce that CN and VIA are coordinating the resumption of both passenger and freight operations for December 27th allowing for Canadians to travel safely as well as getting needed goods to their end destination. Until the south track is cleared and repaired, track capacity remains limited resulting in reduced train volumes for both freight and passenger operations. CN would also like to recognize and thank the support of local first responders during this incident.”
