Breaking News – Today’s Northumberland Has Confirmed Cobourg Police Investigating Alleged Sexual Assault at Bus Terminal

Today’s Northumberland has confirmed Cobourg Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred at the bus terminal on Albert Street in Cobourg.

Police issued a vague release on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 stating, “Cobourg Police Service is currently investigating an incident that occurred in the area of Albert Street and Second Street” that was reported as an “assault.”

But gave no indication where the incident may have occurred and that it was a alleged sexual assault.

Since the press release, individuals have stated to Today’s Northumberland the alleged incident was a sexual assault where possibly more than one suspect was involved.

Cobourg Police Communications Coordinator Lisa Munday confirmed on Thursday the allegation involves a sexual assault.

“The investigation is ongoing and in the early stages,” said Munday.

“Police continue to gather information from witnesses and work with the victim.”

On Thursday, police including a identification officer and by-law officer were at the bus terminal investigating further.

Munday also stated they didn’t not release it was a sexual assault in the initial release because, “police were gathering information to determine the circumstances of the incident.”

Munday also indicated in the initial release, “there is no risk to public safety at this time.”
