City of Kawartha Lakes – Boat Patrols

In Police Blotter

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) –  Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are out patrolling the waterways again this summer.

On July 2nd, 2018 the detachment marine unit approached numerous vessels on waterways throughout the area and while the majority of operators were in compliance with the laws, two alcohol related charges were laid.

On Moore Lake officers observed alcohol in a vessel.  Investigation led to Lorena Granados-Sanchez, 31 years of age, being charged with having liquor in an unlawful location contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

On Lake Dalrymple officers once again observed alcohol in a vessel. The investigation resulted in Ian Speare, 43 years of age, being charged with having liquor in an unlawful location contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

A fine of $125.00 is associated with the offence.

The OPP would like to remind vessel operators that impaired boating is impaired driving. Help keep our waterways safe and leave the alcohol at home.
