Northumberland Social Services Staffer Will Fill CEMC Role

In City Hall

The imminent departure of Health Safety Emergency Risk Manager Ken Stubbings from the county staff means a new Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator must be appointed.

At its May meeting, the Corporate Support Standing Committee voted to recommend that county council accept his recommendation of Colleen McCabe of the Social Services Department for the post.

Having someone serving this function is a legislated requirement for each Ontario municipality, Stubbings explained.

“Colleen has a background in emergency management and will be completing all CEMC courses that come up,” he said.

As well, in her current position, she has already been involved in such emergency-drill exercises as evacuations.

“She is fully knowledgeable, fully prepared to help fill those shoes,” he said.
