Quinte West OPP – Driver Charged Following Highway 401 Collision

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges after responding to a motor vehicle collision on the 401.

On February 11, 2022 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Quinte West OPP responded to Highway 401 westbound at Glen Miller Road following a report of a single vehicle in the ditch. Additional information received was that the driver of the vehicle had left the collision scene on foot. Officer s located the driver running westbound on the eastbound side of the highway. After interacting with the accused and observing signs of impairment, the accused was arrested for impaired driving. The accused was transported to the Quinte West OPP Detachment for testing where blood alcohol levels were determined to be well in excess of the legal limit.

Michael RANIOWSKI, 50 years old from Belleville has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on February 24, 2022. Additionally, their license was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
