Woman Attacked In Walmart Parking Lot In Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

A Cobourg woman said she was attacked in the parking lot at Walmart on Tuesday evening by a stranger.
The woman who asked not to be identified said around 6 p.m. she was waiting in line at the checkout at Cobourg Walmart on Strathy Road on June 5, 2018.
The woman was in the express line of the checkout when she noticed a man in front of her staring at her.
“I avoided eye contact and looked at chocolate bars or whatever.”
“He then leaned over my basked and said, “you have a cat” and I said yes.”
Being that she had cat litter and a case of water.
After checking out on her way out the doors, the man said that he would help her unload her cart.
“I refused and I started heading towards the north parking lot which is where I usually park.”
But the person was still close to her and said, “I parked here too, I can still help you,” but again the woman refused.
“I went to my car and emptied the cart and all of a sudden he came up and grabbed my empty cart and he goes “you’re beautiful, I need to hug you because you’re so huggable.”
“And I went, “back away!”
“He came up and put his arms around me and kissed my cheek and I went “back away.”
The woman said she got into her car as fast as she could and locked the doors.
“I just started shaking and crying.”
On her way to the police station on William Street she called a friend who tried to calm her down when she noticed the vehicle beside her.
“He came up beside me and he was waving honking his horn.”
The woman describes the vehicle as a black SUV.
It pulled in front of her and turned down Harden Street.
Quickly the woman went to the Cobourg Police Station to report the incident.
“They were no help whatsoever.”
Talking to a person behind the counter who was not wearing a uniform the woman said, “they were going why didn’t you get the license plate number?”
During that time the woman admits she was extremely upset, but left the police station.
“I went home and I had a shower to try and get the smell of the guy off me.”
On Wednesday speaking to Today’s Northumberland the woman said, “I’m still pretty shaken up but I want to warn other people about this guy.”
The woman will once again be going to the Cobourg Police Station to file a report with police today.
An e-mail was sent to Cobourg Police at 1:47 p.m. on June 6, 2018 to ask for any information but Today’s Northumberland hasn’t received a response. There has not been a press release as of 6:20 p.m.
