The collision happened on Telephone Road east of Vernonville Road, east of Grafton at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was travelling westbound on Telephone Road in Alnwick/Haldimand Township when it’s believed a lightning strike may have caused a tree to fall directly in front of the vehicle.

The incident also caused downed power lines.

Emergency services including Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department, Northumberland OPP and Northumberland County Paramedics were called to the scene.

Alnwick/Haldimand Township Works Department blocked off the roadway while hydro crews repair power lines.
