Exclusive – It’s The Law to Quarantine High-Risk Contacts But Health Unit Says Transition House “Is a Little Different”

In Editor Choice, Local

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit said it is a legal requirement for COVID-19 high-risk contacts to quarantine for two weeks.

“It is a legal requirement for high-risk contacts to quarantine for 14 days and the Health Unit works with confirmed cases to identify their high-risk contacts,” said Chandra Tremblay who is Manager, Corporate Services, Communications and IT Services for HKPR District Health Unit.

On April 28, 2021, Northumberland County issued a press release stating a staff member at Transition House tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s Northumberland confirmed on May 3, 2021 that there are six high-risk contacts as a result of the staff member testing positive. There are presently 10 clients residing at Transition House.

Testing of the clients and staff have been completed and as of Monday, May 3, 2021 with all results testing negative.
Executive Director, Anne Newman did state that Transition House is not responsible for individuals movements or actions who are registered.

Tremblay said the Health Unit recognizes the situation at Transition House is, “a little different.”

“The six high-risk contacts identified may be struggling with various health complications not related to COVID, including mental health challenges, making it difficult to comply with all of the directions for quarantining.”

“As a result, the Health Unit is working with Transition House and the County to support these individuals to quarantine as much as possible.”

Realizing it may be a “challenge” for some of the clients, the Health Unit has vaccinated all “consenting” Transition House clients and staff.
