Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you have seen, the provincial government announced today a broad lockdown for our province today beginning December 26.
This lockdown impacts our schools in the following ways:
Elementary schools will be closed until January 11, 2020
Secondary schools will be closed until January 25, 2020
(Please note: we are finalizing plans to accommodate Learning and Life Skills students in secondary schools from January 11-22)
Beginning January 4, schools will provide learning for students to complete at home on these days. This learning will take place in a variety of ways, through previously assigned work or new work, using the classroom teachers’ regular communication platforms (e.g., Edsby, Google, D2L), based on students’ age and grade.
Learning during this period will involve a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities for all students. Synchronous learning refers to real-time teaching when the students and teacher are connected live, while asynchronous education would involve online posting of resources that can be completed by the student independently.
Learning for students enrolled in the virtual elementary and secondary schools will continue as normal.
With today’s announcement of short term school closures, it is important to gather information about student technology needs to support remote learning. If you are in need of a Chromebook, please complete this Google Form no later than Sunday, December 27th at 9:00 p.m. Please note: To be responsive to the learning requirements in the secondary quadmester model, and given the extended break scheduled for those students, we will be prioritizing secondary student requests before reviewing elementary student requests for devices.
We will inform parents of any further updates on the status of our schools through our website at kprschools.ca, direct email and text via SchoolMessenger, the news media, and social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
