Like it has been since the tragedy that killed a 12-year-old boy, the community of Port Hope was there to comfort a grieving family whose funeral was held on Friday, December 11, 2020.

Cormac Kerin, died suddenly in a traffic accident on the morning of Tuesday December 2nd, 2020 outside his home as he and his 10-year-old sister, Shea were about to board a school bus.

Shea is still in Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto.

A private service was held at the Ross Funeral Home for Cormac followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

After the service, the procession made its way to the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery on Toronto Road.

Since the accident the community has been grieving with the family and offering support.

On Friday, numerous people were on the streets paying respects for the family as the procession lead by Port Hope Police, with Northumberland OPP officers following went along Walton Street and north on Toronto Road.

Students from grades, five, seven and eight at St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School stood along the roadway quietly. Just across the street were approximately 15 construction workers wearing florescent orange vests holding their helmets. Members of the Northumberland Minor Hockey Association (Nighthawks) stood along the roadway.

A number of emergency services who responded to the accident on the morning of December 2, including Northumberland OPP, Port Hope Fire Department and Northumberland County Paramedics, along with Port Hope Police saluted as the procession entered the cemetery.

Cormac is survived by his father Brendan, mother Jennifer, sisters Aishling and Shea. And his loving extended family members.
