Daniel Smith Accepts Role as Fire Chief and Director of Fire and Emergency Services for Municipality of Port Hope

The Municipality of Port Hope is pleased to announce that Daniel Smith has been appointed Director of Emergency Services and Fire Chief of the Municipality of Port Hope.

As a member of Senior Management, Chief Smith is also responsible for leading the Fire and Emergency Services team, which includes Fire, Building and Municipal Law Enforcement Divisions.
“It is my absolute privilege to serve the Municipality as the new Director of Fire and Emergency Services / Fire Chief,” notes Chief Smith. “I look forward to collaborating with all members across fire, building inspection services, and municipal law enforcement in an effort to provide service excellence to our community.”

Chief Smith is a seasoned Firefighter with twenty years of fire service experience in various leadership roles, including most recently as Deputy Chief for the Municipality. Previously, he held senior positions in the communities of Quinte West and Essex, as well as for Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. – Chalk River.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, he is a certified Fire Officer and holds a diploma in Fire Protection Engineering, an executive diploma in municipal management, as well as certifications in Fire Service Leadership, Fire Service Administration and Fire and Explosive Investigation. He is also presently completing his Bachelor of Emergency Management through Cape Breton University.

Chief Smith’s appointment was officially authorized by By-law at the regular Council meeting on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
