Police Execute Search Warrant

(ALDERVILLE, ON) – Members from the Crime Unit of Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a conspiracy charge after an investigation that began on July 13, 2020.

On July 13, 2020, police located a black GMC Sierra pick-up truck parked behind the barn of the Roseneath fair grounds in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. The driver was displaying concerning behaviour and transported to a nearby hospital for assessment. Throughout the course of the investigation, officers learned the individual was in possession of 57.16 kilograms of cannabis, and a very large undisclosed quantity of Canadian and US currency. These items were allegedly going to be used to pay ransom for a conspired kidnapping.

On the morning of August 13, 2020, police executed a search warrant at a business located in Alderville First Nation, in relation to this on-going investigation.

Update – Alderville First Nation Chief Dave Mowat told Today’s Northumberland, “it’s not a random event and the safety of the public is not at risk.”
