The last of the 30 metres of concrete was poured on Thursday, October 10, 2019 in preparation for the LAV III Monument at 700 D’Arcy Street in Cobourg which was the site of the No. 26 Ordnance Depot of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps from 1954-1974.
The light poles are in place and the lighting is getting ready to be installed and the armour stone is in place.
The Town of Cobourg, in partnership with Canada Company, will be hosting an event to formally unveil the LAV III monument on Friday, November 8th starting at 3:30 p.m. at 700 D’Arcy Street. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Administered by Canada Company, the LAV III Monument Program was established to commemorate Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. Successful communities receive full-size decommissioned replica LAV III vehicles, provided by the Government of Canada, to be used as centerpieces for local monuments. The LAV III’s are the iconic vehicles used during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan.
In 2018 the Town of Cobourg was awarded the LAV III Monument and will be one of over 30 communities across Canada to install a monument commemorating fallen military members and their families.
The monument will be located at 700 D’Arcy Street, Cobourg, once the site of the No. 26 Ordnance Depot of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps from 1954 – 1970 and will include a large relocated plaque with the original coat of arms of the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps badge.
