Apr 3:
- At 1:45am an officer on general patrol on Hwy 401 stopped a grey Dodge Journey in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp to check on the sobriety of the driver. Evidence of illicit drugs was ob served resulting in both occupants being arrested. The driver, David Edward RYAN age 31 and his passenger Stephanie Margaret COLLUCCI age 30 both of Quebec City, Quebec are charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) and Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – over 30grams. RYAN was also charged with Driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Both were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 9, 2018.
- A 31 yr old man attended the Brighton detachment asking for help indicating that he hadn’t eaten in days and was feeling unwell. Staff at the detachment contacted EMS who transported him to a hospital.
- At approximately 7:30pm police were called by CNR officials after a female attempted self-harm by lying down on the railroad tracks in the Brighton area. A VIA train passed over her without injuring the woman. A second train was able to stop and hold her for police. The 21 yr old local woman was apprehended for her own safety and transported by officers to a hospital for assessment.
- Officers responded to four family disputes this date; a 12 yr old child having a temper tantrum in Hastings, request to remove an intoxicated 49 yr old relative from a Colborne home, and in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp; a 14 yr old boy smashing items in the home because he couldn’t play his PS-4 and an adult daughter becoming violent; an apparent result of not taking her medications. No charges resulted in these calls to police. (Cobourg Police also assisted the OPP with another family dispute at the Cobourg OPP detachment. A mother became violent in a car travelling on Hwy 401 causing her son to pull off of the highway to speak to police resulting in the mother taking a taxi to Scarborough rather than travel the rest of the distance with her family.
- Apr 4:
- A stolen grey Honda Civic was recovered on County Rd 2 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp just west of the Cramahe Twp border. The car, which had been abandoned for 3 days, was reported stolen from the Kitchener area on March 31, 2018. Police are investigating a possible link to a report of a stolen pickup truck from a nearby residence reported on April 2nd. Investigation ongoing.*
- A Brighton resident reported being flagged down by an apparently stranded motorist on County Rd 30 south of Hwy 401. The male indicated that he had run out of gas and requested the citizen buy his gold jewellery to raise money for fuel. He declined but gave the man $10 for gas. He described the male as six feet tall, well dressed with a light brown skin tone. An elderly female was observed in the back seat of the dark coloured Infinity wearing a black and white Middle Eastern headscarf. Similar reports have been received by police in the Napanee area where citizens reported the gold jewellery being fake after buying it.*
- Officers were kept busy with several reports of trees and power lines down across roads due to high winds beginning shortly after 12noon. Motorists also reported black ice on some roads in the south of Northumberland County. No serious injuries were reported to police in any of these occurrences.
- Apr 5:
- Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on County Rd 18 in Alderville First Nation shortly after 1:00am. The responding officer located a black Hyundai partially in the ditch with the driver seated inside. After investigation it was determined that the driver had been drinking. He was arrested and taken for further tests resulting in Dalton Jack MARTIN age 25 of Roseneath, Ontario being charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 25, 2018
- Citizens have begun to take advantage of the Gun Amnesty in effect for the month of April by arranging with police to turn in their unwanted or illegally owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition. Interested gun owners are asked to call the OPP (or their local police service’s) non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122 to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons or use the OPP website button — www.opp.ca/gunamnesty — or the Citizen Self Reporting tool to notify police.
- Report of a mailbox damaged on Friendly Acres Rd in Trent Hills sometime over this past Friday night. A baseball bat appears to have been used.*
- Northumberland OPP officers investigated seven accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 43 traffic related complaints and conducted five RIDE programs during this time period.
