Northumberland Humane Society’s Walk to Fight Animal Cruelty

In Charity, Upcoming Events

The Northumberland Humane Society is asking the community to join them as they ‘Walk to Fight Animal Cruelty’ on Sunday, September 22nd at Peace Park in Cobourg. The annual walk-a-thon is a pledge-based fundraiser with all funds going to support the animals brought in through animal cruelty investigations.

“It’s important that we, as a community, walk together to fight animal cruelty.” says Kate Lennan, General Manager of the Northumberland Humane Society. “Our annual walk is not only an opportunity to educate, it raises much needed funds to support the animals brought in through animal welfare investigations.”

The Northumberland Humane Society recently had four cats surrendered through their Animal Welfare Enforcement team. “Many of the animals surrendered through cruelty investigations are in need of care and rehabilitation.” says Lennan. “The four cats recently brought in were living in unsanitary conditions and in need of immediate care.”

The Northumberland Humane Society returned to the front-line of animal welfare enforcement on July 25, 2019 and there is no shortage of calls. “Our enforcement team received 31 calls in August,” says Tex Ridder, Animal Welfare Inspector for the Northumberland Humane Society. “It’s important that the community reports any and all suspected cases of neglect or abuse of animals in our community.”

The Northumberland Humane Society relies solely upon the generous support of the local community to provide shelter and care to animals that have been abused or neglected. Donations from the public and fundraising events, such as the Walk to Fight Animal Cruelty, is what allows the organization to continue their important role in Northumberland County.
