Update – Video – Police Remove Nazi Flag From Property In Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local

Cobourg Police are investigating after a Nazi flag was being flown on the lawn of a couple who were unaware of it there until police knocked on their door in Cobourg’s west end.

The first time the couple were aware of the swastika flag on their lawn was when Cobourg Police knocked on their door on Friday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. on August 30, 2019.

Cobourg Police had been to the home earlier in the day, but there was no one at the residence.

The swastika flag was zip-tied to a pole near a sidewalk. A Canadian flag was covered over by the swastika flag.

The couple spoke to Today’s Northumberland about the incident.

“We were very shocked,” said the woman who asked not to be identified.

The husband returned home from work, while the wife arrived back home from a vacation. Both were in the house when police knocked on their door to make them aware of the flag.

Numerous people throughout the day saw the flag on the lawn and posted it on social media.

“It’s a sad comment about our society,” said the man.

“What’s the motivation behind it?”

“That’s not a good symbol to flash anywhere, under any circumstances.”

Cobourg Police were canvassing residents who live in the area and looking for any security video people may have.

If anyone has any information about the incident they are asked to call Cobourg Police or CrimeStoppers.
