As a new school year gets underway, Northumberland Food For Thought (NFFT) is celebrating another boost to student well-being, thanks to a $5,000 contribution from Cameco’s community sponsorship program.
The funding will support Student Nutrition Programs in schools across Northumberland County, helping provide healthy food to students each day and ensuring they arrive in the classroom nourished, focused and ready to learn.
Cameco’s sponsorship program invests in initiatives that advance youth, education and literacy, health and wellness, and community development. Through its ongoing support of NFFT, Cameco continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local children and families while helping to strengthen the communities it serves.
“Cameco’s generosity has a meaningful impact on Student Nutrition Programs across our county, helping ensure that children and youth have the nourishment they need to learn and thrive. We deeply appreciate their continued investment in our community,” says Beth Kolisnyk, member of NFFT and Regional SNP Coordinator for Northumberland County.
“Student Nutrition Programs do far more than provide food—they help create the conditions for students to learn, participate, and reach their full potential,” said Andy Thorne, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “Cameco is proud to support NFFT and the incredible network of volunteers, educators, and community partners who work every day to ensure students have access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.”
NFFT is a community-based partnership dedicated to supporting Student Nutrition Programs in schools throughout the region. Offered at no cost to students, these programs provide nutritious food to thousands of children and youth each school day.
“Research consistently demonstrates that Student Nutrition Programs contribute to student success by helping ensure that hunger is not a barrier to learning,” says Kimberly Leadbeater, Registered Dietitian with Lakelands Public Health and Chair of NFFT.
Along with the support of residents, businesses and organizations, local Student Nutrition Programs also receive financial support from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) through its lead local agency, Peterborough Child and Family Centres.
