It may not have been in any hurry, but one tiny traveller certainly appeared to know where it was going.
A Hickory Tussock Moth caterpillar was spotted making its way across the bridge in Peace Park earlier this week, stopping along the way for a bite to eat before continuing its journey.
The caterpillar, which is native to Ontario, is easily recognizable by its distinctive white, black and orange markings and its covering of fine-looking hairs and spines.
While it may look harmless — and it generally is — there is one good reason not to pick one up.
Those black hairs or spines can cause skin irritation if touched.
For this particular caterpillar, however, the journey across the bridge appeared to be going just fine.
It slowly made its way across the walkway, stopping to find some food along the way before carrying on.
The caterpillar wasn’t the only activity taking place around Cobourg Creek.
A number of anglers were also taking advantage of the creek, patiently casting their lines and hoping for a bite.
Unfortunately, from what could be seen, the fish weren’t nearly as interested in cooperating.
While the anglers waited for their catch and the caterpillar continued its journey, Peace Park offered another reminder that sometimes the smallest visitors can attract the most attention.
And unlike the anglers, at least the caterpillar appeared to have no trouble finding something to eat.
