Security Clears Cobourg’s East Pier Over Ongoing Drug Safety Concerns

In Local, Police Blotter

What should have been a peaceful summer evening stroll along Cobourg’s east pier ended with security guards asking visitors to leave, citing ongoing concerns about drug use in the area.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, two security guards patrolling the east pier told several people they would have to leave the pier.

When asked why, one of the guards said they had been instructed to clear the pier from their supervisor because of drug use.

The guard explained it was a safety concern, saying people under the influence have become unconscious on the pier, creating the risk they could fall into the water.

Later that evening, the guards discovered a person who appeared to be unconscious and unresponsive by the north harbour wall..

The guards called 9-1-1, but before emergency crews arrived, the individual regained consciousness and walked away from the area.

It was not immediately known whether the measure is temporary or part of an ongoing response to safety concerns.
