Peterborough County OPP – Traffic Complaint Leads to Impaired Charge (Name Released)

An officer from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a traffic complaint on Highway 115.

On Friday June 19, 2026, at approximately 9:45pm, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP was dispatched to a report of a vehicle on Highway 115 with no lights on. The caller provided a description of the vehicle and the direction of travel and noted they appeared to be having issues with maintaining their lane.

The officer located the vehicle in question and conducted a traffic stop. Upon approach, the officer spoke with the driver and determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD) and based on the results, the driver was arrested. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Ryley BLIGHT (age 30) of Pontypool, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Drive without proper rear light

• Drive vehicle or boat with Cannabis readily available

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 21, 2026.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
