With Canada Day just around the corner, Belleville Fire and Emergency Services is reminding residents of the City’s restrictions on fireworks.
Under the Fireworks By-law (2025-142), consumer fireworks may only be discharged on Canada Day or on the day before or after (June 30, July 1 or July 2) and only in the rural areas of Belleville. Discharging consumer fireworks in the urban areas of Belleville is strictly prohibited year-round.
Residents planning to discharge consumer fireworks in rural Belleville are reminded to follow these safety tips:
· Keep a water source and fire extinguisher readily available.
· Ensure only adults handle and ignite the fireworks. Never use fireworks while impaired.
· Maintain a safe distance from people, houses and flammable material.
· Never light or discharge fireworks from your hands.
· Dispose of used fireworks safely by soaking them in water before discarding them.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the City’s Canada Day fireworks display at Zwick’s Park on July 1 at dusk (between 9:30 and 10 p.m.). Learn more about Belleville’s Canada Day celebrations at Belleville.ca/Canada-Day.
Violations of the fireworks bylaw involving unsafe discharges in Belleville’s urban areas are enforced by the fire department. If you observe fireworks being discharged in an unsafe manner in an urban area, call 9-1-1. View the full by-law on our Commonly Requested By-Laws webpage.
