Port Hope Police – Single Commercial Vehicle Collision Under Investigation

In Police Blotter

Police are investigating a serious single-vehicle collision involving a commercial transport truck that occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 10:23 a.m. on Hamilton Road.

Preliminary information indicates that a southbound container truck struck the underside of a railway bridge after rear-mounted equipment remained in an elevated position. The impact caused the vehicle to stop abruptly and pivot upward, resulting in the cab striking the bridge and sustaining significant damage before returning to the roadway.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police, fire, and emergency medical services responded to the scene. Officers secured the area and initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the collision, which remains ongoing at this time.

As a precaution, railway operations in the area were temporarily assessed. The bridge sustained structural damage, including displaced concrete and exposed reinforcing steel.

Repairs have been scheduled, and a portion of Hamilton Road between Ward Street and Peter Street has been closed to traffic. A section of concrete has been replaced and the Hamilton Road in the area of the collision should be reopened soon.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is asked to contact the Port Hope Police Service at 905-885-8123. In case of an emergency, please dial 911.
