Nicole Beatty Launches Full Platform and Website for 2026 Cobourg Mayoral Race

In Local

Nicole Beatty, Deputy Mayor and candidate for Mayor of Cobourg, today (June 11, 2026) launched her campaign website and full platform for the 2026 municipal election. Her plans reflect residents’ concerns and her commitment to strengthening community safety, stabilizing tax increases, attracting good jobs to the area, investing in physician recruitment, creating parks and recreational opportunities that actually work for residents, and returning Strong Mayor Powers to all of Council.

“This platform is my response to what I’m hearing across town. Six priorities. Four years. One focus: a safer, stronger, more connected Cobourg that works for everyone who calls it home,” says Beatty.

Safer Streets. Real Results
Public safety is essential for Beatty both as a mother of two young children and as a Cobourg Police Services Board member. Her platform commits to supporting first responders and safer public spaces while exploring alternative community safety models that keep costs manageable and drugs out of public spaces. “THIS IS AN URGENT ISSUE, WITHOUT A DOUBT. This isn’t just a policy position for me. It’s personal. Every family in Cobourg deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood, in our parks, and downtown,” said Beatty.

Beatty is also calling for a fundamental shift in how Cobourg and Northumberland respond to homelessness, addiction, and mental health. This includes moving beyond solutions that only hit pause on a crisis toward a coordinated, campus-of-care model that treats housing and healthcare as the foundation, integrating recovery, treatment, and wraparound support before situations escalate into emergencies.

Parks That Actually Work
Safe parks. Family-first parks. No encampments. No illegal drug use. Beatty is clear on where she stands. She is committing to creating a Parks and Recreation Master Plan that reflects Cobourg’s future needs and delivers safer, more active, and better-used parks, facilities and programs for families, youth, and seniors.

Her platform also includes waterfront and harbour revitalization, support for arts, culture, and festivals year-round, and an Arts and Culture Ambassador Program to promote local artists and heritage.

With a background in resource development, Beatty will pursue grants, philanthropy, and non-tax funding opportunities to help long-discussed recreation projects like a new YMCA and aquatic centre and outdoor basketball courts finally move forward. “We have beautiful assets and spaces that make Cobourg unique. We need to be good stewards of what makes us special, not let it deteriorate,” said Beatty.

Strong Mayor Powers Back Where They Belong
In one of her most direct commitments, Beatty says she will delegate Strong Mayor Powers back to all of Council on day one, returning decision-making to where it belongs. “Better decisions are made through consensus building, not centralized power.

Residents elect a full Council for a reason and as Mayor, I will make sure every member of that Council has a meaningful leadership role,” said Beatty.

Her platform also includes bringing back citizen advisory committees, launching an Ask the Mayor webpage, introducing a Youth Councillor program, deactivating the Mayor’s corporate credit card, and establishing a permanent Resident Budget Advisory Committee, all at no additional cost to taxpayers.

Nicole encourages residents to reach out with questions, subscribe to her campaign newsletter via her website to stay informed, and attend a meet and greet. To read Nicole’s full platform and learn more about her visit www.nicolebeatty.ca.
