Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged several individuals in connection with recent incidents.
On March 26, 2026, at around 12:15 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of a business on Grand Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The caller reported that an individual was shouting threats toward staff.
Police attended and took one person into custody. Further investigation revealed the individual was wanted on outstanding warrants.
Harley SMITH (33) of no fixed address, has been charged with:
– Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm – two counts
– Causing a disturbance
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
On March 26, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., OPP responded to a dispute at a residence on Bells Hill Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. The caller reported that a family member had caused damage to property following an altercation.
A 70-year-old male, from the Municipality of Port Hope, has been arrested and charged with:
– Mischief – destroys or damages property
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in May. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
On March 27, 2026, shortly before 2:00 a.m., a motor vehicle failed to stop for police after being observed travelling 151 km/h east bound on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Brighton.
A neighbouring police service was notified, and within an hour, OPP were advised that a vehicle matching the description had been located in Belleville with one person in custody.
Peter WALLINGTON (31) from Belleville, has been charged with:
– Dangerous operation
– Flight from peace officer
– Resist peace officer
– Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
– Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
– Fail to signal – lane change
– Obstruct plate
– Pass on right – not in safety
The accused’s vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and their driver’s licence suspended for 30 days. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in May.
