Northumberland County council has approved the change of name for the Physician Recruitment Advisory Committee to the Northumberland Primary Care Recruitment committee to reflect its expansion of scope to include nurse-practitioners.

Both name and scope of expansion were approved after a report from Physician Recruitment Specialist Paula Mason.

Council response was enthusiastic, with Councillor Brian Ostrander offering a one-word comment – “Hallelujah!”

Councillor Olena Hankivsky added a different word – “Ditto!”

Hankivsky was also delighted with Mason’s next report, whose recommendation was that the county’s Chief Administrative Officer and Treasurer be given authority to approve and disburse recruitment incentives as set out by the anonymous donor – who was announced last month to have provided $596,225 to offer such incentives in order to attract primary-care professionals to practice in the county.

“I would like to thank the anonymous donor for their generous donation to this very important fund, and to encourage anonymous donors to come forward and do the same,” Hankivsky said.

“Or not anonymous – we’re okay with that too,” Ostrander added.
