Breaking News – Video – Chunk of Ice Smashes Through Windshield of Vehicle North of Port Hope

In Local, Police Blotter

Miraculously the driver of a vehicle suffered only minor injuries after a chunk of ice smashed through the front windshield of a vehicle north of Port Hope on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

At approximately 1 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to County Road 28 at Oughs Road (north of Dale Road) for a SUV travelling northbound that was struck by a chunk of ice that is believed to have come off the top of a tractor trailer travelling southbound.

The chunk of ice smashed through the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The lone occupant suffered minor facial injuries, and was not transported to hospital.

Northumberland OPP say, all drivers must proactively clear snow and ice from their vehicles before driving. Even small ice fragments can dislodge while driving, strike other vehicles, and cause damage or injuries. Remove all snow and ice from your roof, hood, windows, and mirrors before getting on the road. “It’s not just good practice, it’s essential for road safety,” said Northumberland OPP Constable James Clarke.
