Civic pride is in the air as Municipality of Port Hope residents are turning their attention to the annual Civic Awards, scheduled to take place in late April, and the nomination deadline of March 8, which is fast approaching.
“The Civic Awards program is such a vital initiative for our community and Council is very much looking forward to celebrating our hard-working and dedicated residents again this year,” said Mayor Bob Sanderson. “I encourage the community to take some time out of their day in the next few weeks and submit a nomination form for someone that they feel should be celebrated for their commitment to this wonderful community.”
Established by Council in 1987, the Civic Awards nomination program is designed to highlight the variety of elements that make up Port Hope’s inspiring culture by acknowledging those who contribute time, talent and resources towards improving the quality of life in the community. A broad range of award categories are open to receive nominations: Outstanding Citizen, Outstanding Youth, Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Athletics, Community Service, Inspiration, Philanthropy, and Environment.
In celebration of its 30th year, the Civic Awards committee has set a generous goal of recognizing 130 residents at the ceremony this spring.
“Each year I am so inspired by the nominations that come pouring in to celebrate the people of Port Hope and their commitment to volunteer their time and talents in the community – for the community,” noted Avril Ewing, Chair of the Civic Awards committee. “We are so proud to celebrate the Program’s thirtieth anniversary and we are aiming to celebrate that milestone by recognizing 130 individuals in our community – A goal that we can handedly achieve, given the caliber of our residents.”
Last year, 122 individuals and team members were recognized at the ceremony, with Olga Cwiek receiving the distinction of Outstanding Citizen and Nathan Titterton receiving the Outstanding Youth award.
Nominations can be submitted online, or through regular mail. Nomination forms, as well as, more information about the Civic Awards Program, eligibility and award category criteria can be found online at www.porthope.ca/civic-awards.
