YMCA Northumberland is excited to share news about “Encore at the Midway;” a special two-night farewell celebration at the historic Midway Drive-In Theatre located halfway between Cobourg and
Port Hope (2141 Theatre Rd. South). On Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6, everyone is invited to enjoy classic films under the stars while raising essential funds for YMCA Northumberland’s Back on Track transformative program, which supports at-risk youth in need across Northumberland County.

The Midway Drive-In Theatre will reopen for one last weekend and transform into a vibrant hub of
entertainment and community spirit. Each night includes a double-feature movie, with the films chosen by popular vote from the community. Voting is open until July 15, allowing Northumberland residents to help curate the final chapter of this beloved local landmark.

Friday, September 5: Golden Era Movies (1930s–1970s)

Saturday, September 6: Classic Blockbusters (1980s–early 2000s)

Showtimes: Family-friendly films at approx. 8:15 pm; Broad appeal favourites at approx. 10:30 pm

Huge thanks goes to the Presenting Sponsor, BIN-IT Ltd. and CUT-IT Ltd., for their generous provision of the venue and their additional support for running this historic event. The community festivities are also made possible thanks to a partnership with local Rotary Clubs of Cobourg, Port Hope and Northumberland Sunrise.

Event details will be released shortly.

Doors will open early, and live local bands, food trucks and other surprise activities will be showcased at this non-alcoholic event to create a festival atmosphere before the movies begin. Perfect for the family to enjoy together, each ticket includes admission for one carload to all the festivities, as well as access to both features and complimentary popcorn (while supplies last). With only 400 vehicle spots available per night, early ticket purchase is encouraged. Details about prices and how to purchase online tickets in advance are coming soon!

“Encore at the Midway is more than just a movie night — it’s a celebration of community, connection, and the power of giving back,” says Eunice Kirkpatrick, CEO of YMCA Northumberland. “With the support of our sponsors and the community who join us to share this special time together, we’re helping youth across our region feel seen, supported, and set up for success.”

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for local businesses and organizations wishing to be part of
history while also supporting local youth and community development.
