The mayors of both Port Hope and Cobourg joined forces for the One Toonie At A Time campaign on Friday, June 27, 2025.

The Port Hope and District Healthcare Foundations, “One Toonie at a Time” campaign is a 10-day fundraising initiative that began today, June 21, 2025, and will run until July 1, 2025.

On Friday, Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky joined Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland in front of Victoria Hall over the lunch hour.

In a booth outside Victoria Hall, both mayors were drumming up financial support with the hope of raising $70,000 to aid the expansion of healthcare services at the Port Hope Walk-In Clinic by hiring a nurse practitioner dedicated to mental health services.

Hankivsky said the Port Hope and District Healthcare Foundation will match donations dollar for dollar up to $70,000.

As of Friday, Hankivsky said they are more than half way to their goal, but will be actively campaigning up to Canada Day.

Cleveland added that although it’s the Port Hope Walk-In Clinic, “the reality is that more than half the users going to that Walk-In Clinic are coming out of Cobourg.”

“While there are many things we need to get working on, and are getting working on, this Walk-In Clinic is a great opportunity to give our ER’s (emergency room) clear to help out all those people who don’t have family doctors.”
