Update – Fire at Golden Plough Lodge Long-Team Care Home in Cobourg

In Local

Today’s Northumberland has confirmed that 23 residents and staff were assessed by Northumberland County paramedics following a fire at the long-term care home on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Emergency services were called to the facility around 2:50 p.m. to address a fire in one of the resident’s rooms on the main floor.

Today’s Northumberland has confirmed a lounge chair caught fire in one of the rooms in the Mcmillan Cottage area.

The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system.

Firefighters ventilated the area to clear the smoke from the room and area.

A triage was set-up and out of the 23 residents and staff that were assessed, five staff members were transported to hospital for what appears to be minor smoke inhalation.

Smoke damage to a small number of adjacent rooms, as well as water damage from fire suppression activities to an area on the floor below these rooms, has prompted the relocation of several residents to other areas of the building.

A resident told Today’s Northumberland that the person in the room where the fire started was a smoker, but it’s unknown at this time how the fire started.
