Cobourg Police – Port Hope Man Charged with Assault Peace Officer (No Name Released)

A 54-year-old Port Hope man is facing charges after police responded to a report of a suspicious person.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 1:15 a.m., police on general patrol received multiple reports of a suspicious
person in the area of Elgin Street West.

Police located a man matching the description provided. Police cautioned the individual for trespassing on private property and provided him with numerous opportunities to move on. As officers engaged with the man, he uttered racist slurs and made threats against the police officer prior to throwing garbage and several objects at an officer.

As a result, the 54-year-old Port Hope man was arrested and charged with uttering threats and assaulting a peace officer. The man was released with a future court date.
