Update – Cobourg Police – Suspect Charged After Collision in Cobourg (No Name Released)

A 32-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into a motor vehicle collision in downtown Cobourg.

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 12:45 a.m., police responded to the area of King Street and Church Street for a reported collision. Through investigation, officers learned that a vehicle had struck three bollards before continuing through the downtown area in a dangerous manner while disobeying road signage.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver flee the scene on foot. Police conducted a search of the area with assistance from the Cobourg Police Service Canine Unit; however, the driver was not located. The vehicle involved was subsequently towed from the scene.

As a result of the investigation, on August 16, 2026, police arrested a 32-year-old Cobourg man and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000, interfering with the lawful use of property, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and interfering with traffic. The accused was released with a future court date of November 18, 2026.
