Golden Plough Lodge Nears Opening as Final Preparations Continue

In Local

Northumberland County says significant progress continues to be made at the new Golden Plough Lodge as staff prepare for residents to move into the long-awaited long-term care home.

Although there has been nothing released to the public, in an update to residents and families, the County outlined several milestones that have been completed since its last progress report.

Additional nurse call stations have now been fully installed and tested, while enhancements to the physiotherapy room are underway and are expected to be finished by the end of July. Staff training, along with the implementation of new policies and procedures, also remains on schedule.

Work is continuing on the installation of the home’s expanded disinfection system, with completion anticipated during the first week of August.

The County also confirmed the Ministry of Long-Term Care has determined the building contains a sufficient number of handrails throughout the facility, meaning no additional handrails are required.

The next key milestone comes on Monday, July 27, when representatives from the Ministry of Long-Term Care will conduct a follow-up inspection of the new facility. The inspection will assess the progress made since the Ministry’s initial pre-occupancy inspection earlier this spring and verify that all required improvements have been completed.

County officials say they are proud of the work completed by staff over the past several months in preparing the new home and remain optimistic the inspection will represent another important step toward receiving the approvals needed to welcome residents.

Although a few final steps remain before the facility can open, the County says it is getting closer each day and thanked residents and families for their patience and continued support. Another update will be provided as the opening of the new Golden Plough Lodge draws nearer.
