Having just completed the six-month process of replacing retiring Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf, the Police Service Board turns to the task of finding a new Deputy Chief.
The force was hit with a one-two punch over the winter, with VandeGraaf announcing in December that he would retire in June, followed by Deputy Chief Jeff Haskins’s January announcement that he would retire in August.
At Tuesday’s board meeting, Chair Adam Bureau asked for recommendations for a three-person committee to tackle the job. When none were forthcoming, he proposed a committee consisting of himself, Vice-Chair Sean Graham and Chief Chris Leather.
They would proceed – as they did when hiring a new chief recently, Bureau said – with finding candidates to present to the board.
With one difference – not taking on a consultant for the task. This will result in a savings for the process of $15,000.
