Busy Day for Emergency Services in Northumberland County

Numerous incidents in the area today following high winds and rain.

There were a few collisions on Highway 401 throughout Northumberland County possibly due to vehicles hydroplaning because of the heavy rains.

Shortly after 3 p.m. a transport traveling westbound on Highway 401 lost control, spun around taking out a large portion of guardrail coming to rest in the median approximately two kilometres west of the Burnham Street overpass.

Hamilton Township and Cobourg Fire Department along with Northumberland County Paramedics, Northumberland OPP and MTO were called to the scene.

The driver wasn’t seriously injured, but one of the fuel tanks ruptured.

Another vehicle went into the ditch on Highway 401 around the Port Hope area. The driver wasn’t seriously injured.

Numerous fire departments were dispatched to several calls for arcing wires in the County.

Hamilton Township Fire Department were dispatched to a stranded boater on Rice Lake at approximately 3:45 p.m.

The person was stranded on Rice Lake due to motor issues and had no life jacket with him.

He was transported to hospital for observation.
