Video – Officials Warn Public After Dead Birds Found at Cobourg Boat Launch

In Local

Several dead birds (three ducks and one goose) were found near the boat launch in Cobourg Harbour around 7 p.m. on March 10, 2026.

According to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative, the public should not touch or interact with sick or dead wildlife. They also recommend that dogs be kept on a leash and under control if such animals are spotted in the area.

Dead birds can sometimes be linked to wildlife diseases such as Avian influenza or other infections that circulate among wild birds. While the risk to people is usually low, direct contact with infected birds or contaminated areas could pose a health risk to pets and wildlife.

Safety tips for the public

Do not touch or move dead birds

Keep dogs leashed and away from the area

Report dead or sick wildlife to local wildlife authorities

Wash hands if you’ve been near areas where wildlife deaths occurred
