Video – Winter Wallop for Southern Ontario on Boxing Day

In Local, Police Blotter, Weather

Boxing Day took on a new meaning for most of southern Ontario with a winter wallop for most of the day.

Strong winds and blowing snow made for a dicey combination for drivers, but there were no reports of serious injuries in Northumberland County for Friday, December 26, 2025.

Plows in Cobourg were doing their best to keep the main roadways clear, but in doing so a number of vehicles seemed to have been plowed in, including a vehicle on Division Street south of Albert and a police cruiser on Hibernia Street.

It was a near miss for one person and a snow plow shortly after 8 p.m. in Cobourg.

Emergency services including four police cruisers, one fire apparatus, a paramedic supervisor vehicle along with an ambulance responded to a report of a person struck by a snow plow on Alexandria Drive. It was determined the plow/vehicle did not make contact with the individual, but the snow the plow was clearing did. The person did not require medical treatment.

Because of the snowfall a number of people took to walking on the streets along King Street and William Street.  Along William Street, the pedestrians were taking precautions walking against the traffic.
