Refusal to Comply with Demand/Wrong Way Arrest

A 26-year-old Bridgenorth man is facing charges after an incident Friday night.

At approximately 10:50pm on December 19, 2025, an officer on general patrol in the Park Street North and Albert Street area spotted a vehicle driving the wrong way down Rubidge Street where it meets Park Street.  The officer turned around and conducted a traffic stop, noticing signs of impairment with the driver. However, the driver refused to provide a breath sample.

As a result, a 26-year-old Bridgenorth man was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Drive wrong way – one-way traffic (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court January 27, 2026.

Festive RIDE Results

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service conducted a Festive RIDE check Friday and Saturday night.

The officers conducted stops in several different locations in Peterborough and Cavan-Monaghan.

As a result:

  • 430 vehicles were checked
  • 34 sobriety tests were administered
  • 1 fail (arrest detailed below)
  • 1 refuse (arrest detailed below)
  • 3 people charged for various offences under the Highway Traffic Act

A reminder to motorists that impaired is impaired. Please plan for your way home. You can schedule a ride or taxi, choose a designated driver, take public transit or plan stay the night.  Officers with the Peterborough Police Service will continue with Festive RIDE checks throughout the holiday season and new year.

Impaired Arrest (RIDE)

A 22-year-old Otonabee-South Monaghan man is facing a charge after an incident at a RIDE check in Cavan-Monaghan Friday night.

At approximately 10:05pm on December 19, 2025, a vehicle approached the RIDE stop at King Street and Tupper Street in Millbrook.  When the driver was asked to complete a roadside test, the driver became confrontational and refused to complete the test. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle did not have proper licence plates and the driver did not have insurance.

As a result, a 22-year-old Otonabee-South Monaghan man was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court January 27, 2026.

 

Impaired Arrest (RIDE)

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after being stopped at a RIDE check Saturday night.

At approximately 10:20pm on December 20, 2025, a vehicle was stopped at the RIDE check on Hunter Street East between Burnham Street and Sheridan Street and the driver given a roadside test.

As a result, a 41-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court February 3, 2025.

 

Drug Arrest

A 37-year-old Peterborough woman is facing several charges after a traffic complaint Saturday morning.

At approximately 7:25am on December 20, 2025, officers were called to the area of Lansdowne Street East and Ashburnham Drive about a driver slumped over the wheel of a vehicle in a parking lot. Upon arrival to the area, they located the vehicle and driver in a different parking lot with the driver and passenger doors open. Upon speaking with the driver, officers learned that she was suspended.  During a search after arrest, officers located and seized:

  • 126.8 grams of MDMA
  • 90.5 grams of Bath Salts
  • 27.7 grams of Fentanyl
  • 25.4 grams of Cocaine
  • 79.6 grams of Methamphetamine
  • 125 tablets of Dilaudid
  • 11 unknown tablets
  • 3 vials of GHB
  • Two knives
  • Over $2300 in currency

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs
  • Production of anything for use in, production of/trafficking in, Schedule I or Schedule III substance
  • Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on December 21, 2025.
