Video – Multi-Vehicle Collision Closes Highway 401 East of Grafton

In Local, Photo Gallery, Police Blotter

A busy day for emergency services dealing with numerous collision around Northumberland County on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Two people were taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 east of Grafton shortly before 4 p.m.

Snowy, windy conditions descended on the area, but with the first snowfall there are usually collisions in the area as drivers need to adjust to the season.

Six vehicles and one transport were involved in the eastbound collision approximately one-kilometre west of Boyce Road bridge.

Highway 401 eastbound was shut down east of Grafton until approximately 7 p.m.

Two people were taken to hospital from the collision. One with serious injuries, one with minor injuries.

As a result of the closure a number of motorists failed to follow the Emergency Detour Routes (EDR).

Combined with some vehicles not having winter tires, made it extremely difficult to navigate during the road conditions.
