Mayoral Directive

Directive Number: DIR-2025-008

Date: October 3rd 2025

Subject: Staff Direction regarding Safety Concerns – Thomas Street and Meredith Crescent

Under the authority of Part VI.1 (Special Powers and Duties of Head of Council) of the Municipal Act, 2001 Sections 284.3 & 284.4 (Direction to Employees) the Mayor may direct staff:

I, Mayor Lucas Cleveland, hereby direct staff, under section 284.3 of the Act to:

The Director of Public Works or staff designate, provide recommendations to the Mayor to address the safety concerns being raised by residents in the area near Thomas and Meredith Crescent that include the option of conducting a traffic study looking at the potential installation of a crosswalk, and to prepare a high level budget estimation in terms of what it would cost to put a sidewalk on the other side
of the street in the chance that the study finds there isn’t a reason to put in a crosswalk.

This Mayor direction to Staff is a result of a first step to getting a crossing solution that addresses consistent stream of residents’ concerns in the East End near Thomas Street and Meredith Crescent about student safety due to the cancellation of bus routes last year without any advance notice from the school board after many years of service.

This Directive takes effect on October 3rd 2025, and remains in effect unless and until it is revoked in writing by the Mayor in writing and filed with the Town Clerk.

Original Signed and Filed with the Town Clerk

Mayor, Lucas Cleveland
