Peterborough County OPP – Single Vehicle Collision Leads to Impaired Charge

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a call for a single vehicle collision.

On Saturday September 20, 2025, shortly before 8:00pm, Peterborough County OPP officers received a call regarding a vehicle that had left the roadway, landing in a ditch on Asphodel 3rd Line in Asphodel-Norwood Township. Officers arrived on scene where upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

James BIRD (age 49) of Hastings, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused had their driver’s licence further suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 14, 2025.
