Peterborough County OPP – Sleepy Driver Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after locating a vehicle with an unresponsive driver.

On Friday September 19, 2025, shortly after 1:30am, Peterborough County OPP officers were dispatched to a call involving a vehicle alarm. Officers attended Trent Lane in Asphodel-Norwood Township and located a vehicle in the roadway with driver appearing to be asleep. Officers were able to gain the attention of the driver and upon speaking with them, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Ryan GRUZA (age 27) of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence further suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 28, 2025.
