Northumberland OPP – Police Respond to Suspicious Person

In Police Blotter

On September 17, 2025, at approximately 1:55 p.m., members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious person believed to be carrying a weapon in the area of Cemetery Road in Castleton.

As a precaution, a nearby school was placed in a hold and secure. This safety protocol restricts movement in and out of the building while allowing staff and students to continue regular activities inside. It is implemented to ensure the safety of everyone while police conduct their investigation.

There was an increased police presence in the area as officers located and spoke with an individual at the cemetery who was found to be in possession of a musical instrument. The hold and secure was lifted shortly before 2:25 p.m.

Northumberland OPP would like to thank the public and school staff for their cooperation.

The Ontario Provincial Police is committe d to serving our province by protecting its’ citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety.
